PWG DDT4 2012 Predictions

Mark: @podjohnnyringo Ben: @BenTurpen JP: @I_Am_Hollywood

First Round

Mark: I can’t decide if Generico/Mack are going to go over here, then have problems as a team leading to a match down the line- but I do think that Sami and Roddy will be way over and may sneak out a victory here. Would not be shocked either way.

Prediction: Sami Callihan & Roderick Strong

Ben: Toughest pick and most anticipated match of the first round. A mixed bag of feelings. On one hand, you have the story of Strong and random partners in DDT4, and the PWG debut of Callihan. Sometimes I put too much stock in “Will a guy be back?”, rather than logical storyline, as a deciding factor in my predictions, especially with PWG, but will Callihan be back? You’d think so. At the same time, it could be undecided or up in the air, so lets get good mileage out of him, right? Having said that, I strongly feel like one of the losers of this match could end up answering Steen’s open challenge. So… Steen/Callihan anyone? On the other hand, you have Generico and Mack, one of the biggest PWG mainstays and one of PWG’s biggest rising stars. Absolutely love the mesh of styles here and this should rock Reseda. Total definition of the word pick’em, but mine lies in the fact that I see Callihan challenging Steen.

Prediction: El Generico & Willie Mack

JP: Originally meant to be Sami & Roderick vs. Kevin Steen & Super Dragon, this match should be great (I will end up saying this lot, just a warning). Truly, I do not want either team to have to lose because I’d like both of them to go on, but if I have to pick one to win, it will likely be Generico & Mack, which will play into a prediction of mine for later in the evening.

Prediction: El Generico & Willie Mack

Mark: Again, I go on a hunch here because The Dynasty have really been on fire whenever they team- meanwhile, Future Shock is now only a tag-team in PWG. I think a win for Future Shock would do a lot to solidify them as PWG regulars, and I think that Ryan and Sky won’t be hurt by losing in a competitive match.

Prediction: Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly

Ben: Once again I’m putting more stock in other factors that perhaps don’t involve what would be considered logical storylines or pro wrestling progression. In this case, I think Cole & O’Reilly generate the more intriguing next round match, and with PWG it’s always about having the best show possible. Not to mention Future Shock is never a guarantee for the next show, while Sky/Ryan are on every show. The Dynasty aren’t effected at all with a loss here, and this match should solidify Cole & O’Reilly as a PWG team, for what will hopefully last a long, long time. Particularly pumped for any and all Sky/O’Reilly exchanges. Expecting a good, fun, nifty match, and my second most anticipated of the first round.

Prediction: Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly

JP: This should be another very fun match. Considering Kyle & Cole are not teaming anywhere else currently, I’d like to think that PWG might want to get usage out of them as a team. Due to that, I’d say they are a safe pick to advance.

Prediction: Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly

Mark: This just may steal the crown for best first round match. I expect RockNES to win, though. Almost certain they will, and that the Fightin’ Taylor Boys will put up another great showing only to fall short of the win.

Prediction: RockNES Monsters

Ben: I feel really bad for FTB here, because these guys have done nothing but improve by leaps and bounds with every performance I see them in, and that’s a huge compliment considering how few times they have actually teamed, as JP has noted to me before, but as I see it, this is SSB or RockNES’s tournament to win. This really goes to show you how good of a job PWG has done with their local teams. I would not at all attest to a surprise FTB run in this tournament, if not the dark horse to win the whole damn thing.

Prediction: RockNES Monsters

JP: These two teams had a very good match at Steen Wolf that seems to go under the radar. I expect the same here with the same result in RockNES taking the W. The Fightin’ Taylor Boys are one team that I would have really liked to see go farther in the tournament, but I don’t see it happening. It’s hard to believe that it feels like they have teamed for forever but in reality, you could probably count the amount of times they have teamed on two hands (which is a further testament to how good they are, despite not teaming very regularly.)

Prediction: RockNES Monsters

Mark: Just because they kind of have to move on to elevate the rest of the teams in the tournament, I think the Bucks beat SSB. I hope that doesn’t mean the end of Uno and Dos in PWG, but only time will tell.

Prediction: The Young Bucks

Ben: Absolutely dreading the possibility of The Young Bucks winning this match. Absolute dread. I was pretty angry when they won last year, and would be even more so if they take out SSB in the first round this year. There are a lot of stories to be told with a Young Bucks run, even legitimizing the tournament in ways, but I’m praying each and every single one of them is smashed here, by who other than the Super Smash Bros. When PWG announced their debut, I was convinced they would become stars, and between their already run in PWG and recent run in EVOLVE, they’re just one big win/performance away from solidifying themselves. Tonight will be that night, I hope.

Prediction: Super Smash Bros.

JP: This should be wonderful and should likely be the “upset” of the tournament. The Young Bucks have won two DDT4s and were in the finals in 2010 as well. I expect the SSB to win here though, much to the rejoicing of Reseda.

Prediction: Super Smash Bros.

Semifinals

Mark: RockNES Monsters vs. Sami Callihan & Roderick Strong

This is the perfect match to establish RockNES as the team of PWG’s future. People will be hot coming off Roddy and Sami winning in the first round, and they then go against the PWG fans favorites in Goodtime and Yuma. Really hope we get to see it.

Prediction: RockNES Monsters

Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly vs. The Young Bucks

Why? Because a win over the Bucks in a great match, in PWG, will be huge for Cole and O’Reilly. Getting to the finals in their first DDT4 appearance will, as I mentioned before, solidify them as PWG regulars and will also carry a lot of weight with a win over the Bucks and The Dynasty.

Prediction: Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly

Ben: Holy crap is this is tough. Talk about defining the term “pick’em”.

Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly vs. El Generico & Willie Mack

The potential in this match up will no doubt have me dancing across the stars and orbiting far into the galaxy, if it is to occur. Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly get their first PWG win on this night, but their second will have to wait. The PWG regulars take this and add to their respective resumes.

Prediction: El Generico & Willie Mack

RockNES Monsters vs. Super Smash Bros.

I perceive these two teams as the favorites, but don’t really want to go with the obvious of them in the finals, although you could argue that would, in turn, make the finals a predictable outcome. Yeah, this is tough. I’ve played around with every possible scenario in my head and this is ultimately what I think creates the most fun tournament, I guess. I’m more on board with SSB and when I was deciding on the first round pretty much committed to these guys being made in this tournament.

Prediction: Super Smash Bros.

JP: Regardless on if the second round/finals or the open challenge pans out as I predicted, I imagine that whatever ends up happening will be greater than fans can imagine.

Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly vs. El Generico & Willie Mack

I hope that this happens. It would be a wonderful match to see and one of the most fresh throughout the whole tournament (which is pretty deep in fresh matches as is.) In order to give Mack and Generico some more accolades, I feel that they win to head to the finals.

Prediction: El Generico & Willie Mack

RockNES Monsters vs. Super Smash Bros.

In what was the SSB’s debut match in PWG, it will come to the second round of DDT4. That match was great to the point that SSB were brought back, which I’d expect in similar fashion here and again, in what should be considered a surprise, SSB likely take the win again to head to the finals.

Prediction: Super Smash Bros.

Finals

Mark: RockNES Monsters vs. Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly

It was hard for me to not spoil who I thought would win during these predictions- but it has to be Goodtime and Yuma, in my eyes. And all four of these guys will put on one hell of a show, without question.

Prediction: DDT4 2012 Winners – RockNES Monsters

Ben: El Generico & Willie Mack vs. Super Smash Bros.

This match accomplishes a couple of things. First, while this will be the first night Generico & Mack have ever teamed, I really like the idea of putting Mack in this position, which would be his first opportunity on the very top of the card. What better way to do it than pair him with one of the absolute best in El Generico against one of the hottest tag teams on the indies right now. Secondly, I’ve said it already, the time is now for Super Smash Bros. Not to mention the potential again here is absolutely out of this world.

Prediction: DDT4 2012 Winners – Super Smash Bros.

JP: El Generico & Willie Mack vs. Super Smash Bros.

Months ago before DDT4 was even confirmed, I felt that the potential possibility for a DDT4 finals would have been Steen & Super Dragon vs. The American Wolves. With that said, I might be even more excited for this possibility of this finals. I do feel that this whole tournament could help push the SSB to higher levels in what could end up being the best DDT4 finals out of all of them if it happens.

Prediction: DDT4 2012 Winners – Super Smash Bros.

PWG World Championship: Kevin Steen issues an open challenge

Mark: Kevin Steen. Opponent: Ehhh, lets go with Peter Avalon just because I can’t think of anyone else at the moment. Give me Nigel, in my dreams.

Prediction: Kevin Steen

Ben: I predict Sami Callihan with an outside shot of Michael Elgin. Both are probably way aggressive choices, but oh well.

Prediction: Kevin Steen

JP: Sami Callihan. With all of the hype of these two potentially meeting, I feel that this is the best way to potentially do it. If it does happen, I expect Steen to leave Reseda as the champion still, but this seems like the strongest possibility, unless there is a potential wildcard, such as Michael Elgin.

Prediction: Kevin Steen
